Why I Bought A Camp Trailer

Getting outdoors and the importance of involving your kids.

THE PURCHASE

I have the fortune of owning a business with my best friend. We both can quickly get lost in our work and lose track of time. With our boys getting older and us not getting any younger we knew we wanted to make sure we carved out time for some good ole memory making.

They say don't make large purchases with with other people. Zach and I don't follow many of those pre-set "friendship rules". I pitched Zach the idea of getting a pop-up camp trailer to take the boys camping, guy trips, dirtbike trips, etc...It was an easy sale. Just a few days later we were the proud owners of a trailer and ready to put that thing to good use!

OUR MAIDEN VOYAGE

Here's the deal...Things never go the way you want them to. That rule seems to be magnified when it is something positive like spending time with family. Zach and I bought the trailer on a Wednesday and planned a campout that Friday. between a busy schedule, packing, checking and hooking up the trailer, we weren't on the road until 6pm. Who cares!? We were headed to the mountains!

We had a game plan when we pulled up to the campsite to efficiently get a fire going for dinner while we simultaneously got the trailer set up. From the time we parked the truck Zach and I were scrambling to get everything done. Our boys had other plans. As Zach and I were scrambling in full dad mode I looked up to see our boys in the distance laughing, playing in the woods with the sun on their faces and mud on their shoes. THAT'S why we did it and that's why we do it. Seeing them giggling and getting dirty made all the stress go away. All the long work hours, financial stress, tension, and to-do lists. Who cares!? We are in the mountains!!!

The Important Things

I would consider our 14hr camping trip a great success. Lincoln probolby wont remember it but I sure will. This trip set the tone for the rest of the summer and the many adventures we will have in the great outdoors. It got the boys away from distractions and in to nature. It reminded Zach and I of what is truly important. Our kids wont remember the long hours we work, or the fires we have to put out. They will remember the sacrifices we make to provide a life worth living.

Get Your Kids Outside - Here's Why

The importance and benefits of immersing young children in nature and the great outdoors are multifaceted and profoundly significant. Early exposure to nature not only fosters a deep appreciation for the environment but also cultivates crucial developmental elements that are not easily replicated indoors.

Engaging children with nature can stimulate all their senses in a unique and holistic way. The sounds of rustling leaves, the smell of fresh rain, the texture of tree bark, and the sight of colorful bugs all provide sensory inputs that can broaden their perception of the world. This sensory stimulation aids in their cognitive development, enhancing their curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills. It also helps to improve their observational skills and understanding of different living organisms and ecosystems.

Beyond sensory and cognitive benefits, nature can also play an integral role in promoting physical health and mental well-being. Regular outdoor activities encourage physical activity, reducing the risk of obesity and associated health issues. Children who spend time outdoors have been found to have better distance vision than those who are primarily indoors. Nature also has a calming effect, reducing stress, enhancing mood, and promoting a sense of peace. It provides a perfect setting for children to learn patience, resilience, and adaptability.

In the age of screens and digitization, it's vital to balance technology use with nature play. Spending time outdoors helps children understand their connection to the natural world, fostering responsible attitudes towards the environment. Early positive experiences in nature can instill a lifelong love for the outdoors, promoting sustainable lifestyles and the conservation of our planet. Therefore, engaging young children with the great outdoors serves not just the individual child but society and the planet as a whole.
